How to install and remove Windows Live Messenger 2009?

Uninstalling Windows Live Messenger 2009
My friend Henry introduced me to Windows Live Messenger 2009.
I was using MSN Messenger 7.5 lol, kinda outdated.
So I google search to download the latest WLM 2009.

After downloading the program, I quickly installed it.
All works smoothly until I was at the sign in window where this error pops up…
“Unable to sign into Windows Live Messenger – Error 80004005″

Hmm I wonder, was it my password?
This time, I typed slowly hoping I didn’t made any typo mistakes for the password in asterisk *********
It didn’t work. I guess I have to remove all Messenger for a fresh reinstallation.

I uninstall MSN Messenger 7.5 and MSN Live Plus.
But, I could not find any uninstaller for Windows Live Messenger 2009!
It was not listed under “Add or Remove Programs” nor the uninstaller.exe is located in
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger

Hmm… I wonder where could it be.
So I looked into “Add or Remove Programs” under “Add/Remove Windows Components”
I found it. After uncheck/untick the box for Windows Messenger, and clicking OK, but it is still there.

How to uninstall Windows Live Messenger 2009 using RUN
To uninstall Windows Live Messenger, click START, then Run if using Windows XP [operating system]
then [type/copy] the following and press Enter: [it works 100%]
msiexec /x {0AAA9C97-74D4-47CE-B089-0B147EF3553C}

You will notice that the Windows Live will be removed from your “Start” > “All Programs” list.

If that does not help, check out this sites

Good luck!

Once you have uninstall it, do a fresh installation by visiting the official Microsoft Windows Live Messenger

Thought maybe I had finally found the answer to my problem. But I did what you said and got this error message:
“This action is only available for products that are currently installed.”

This is the problem. Maybe you can help me? So far I cant find anyone who can help and Ive been dealing with this for over 24 hours now ever since windows updated the other day.

My computer can no longer find windows live messenger anywhere, not even in its own search. Yet when I go to the website to try to reinstall it, there is a new windows live box (from the day before yesterdays updates I assume) that takes you to the page to reinstall the messenger yet…..that site is telling me I already have messenger installed! I am so beyond frustrated tonight with all of this and dont know where else to turn but I need my windows live messenger back.

Can anyone tell me how to reinstall the windows live messenger even though it is supposedly on my computer? Is there a way to do that? Or a way to completely uninstall it even though my computer says its not on here? ugh Thank you for any help.

    Success!! Yayyyyy :)
I ran Windows installer; did a complete virus check (what made me do that I don’t know, but I did) and reinstalled WLM 2009 and it worked; everything works fine now! Oh ya, I uninstalled SP2 as I heard it screwed up a lot of Vista systems, especially Media Centre. Now, I have my updates from MS set to tell me about the updates, but to let me choose which ones I install.

I think I’m in a lot of trouble. I’ve followed everything that was posted here to the letter – no success. I was certain WLM2009 was totally gone from my computer, so I went to install an older version, and got some error code and under it, it said “catastrauphic error” YIKES! :( It says I have WLM2009, but I cannot find any trace of it, even after I did everything here. I can’t do system restore because it only goes back to the day I uninstalled my old WLM to make room for this stoopit piece of crap. I’m running Vista Home Premium. Can anyone help me please?

Hi snifflerooh…….is that as far as system restore will go, can’t you go back even further, say, last month? I tried to go back to the day I uninstalled the old and updated the new messenger but it wouldn’t work either so I found a spot two days previous to that which worked ok. The new messenger is still in my system though it’s just frozen! I keep getting a bubble when I switch on saying updates are available. This is not the normal automatic updates because it wants me to ‘agree’ and I just know it’s trying to update the frozen windows live messenger so I ignor the update at all costs. I use XP so I’m not sure if the same deal will work for you in Vista. I do know it’s hiding really well that’s why you can’t find it. Yet it’s strange how some people seem to be able to get rid of it. I couldn’t do anything for ages until I did the system restore. Just see if you can go back even further. It did take my pc ages to get through the restore by the way, I’m sure windows live messenger was fighting with it all the way down!

Thanks for your help, jacwat :) I checked my system restore again, and it only goes back as far as the day WLM was uninstalled to make room for the ‘new’ one. :( I tried RevoUninstaller but it shows nothing. Maybe I should try that date-if it failes, I can always put it back I guess. Ugh! I HATE Microsoft sometimes! lol

If you want to manually install the latest Live Messenger 2009(14.0.8089.726), you can download all the components needed, as well as the uninstaller from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?zkdjojowz24

    Enjoy!

If you downloaded the standalone version(14.0.8089.726) from Softpedia: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml , the ID above does not work, use this instead:

    msiexec /x {A85FD55B-891B-4314-97A5-EA96C0BD80B5}

or to check the ID manually, open Regedit and go to:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger

…copy the ID and replace the above if it isn’t the same.

That should do the trick :)

    Oh why Microsoft?

This is how I got rid of Windows Live messenger and got my old one back AND I can still sign in to the old one…………
First I went into System Restore and restored to a point two days before I installed the new messenger, which got rid of the new windows live messenger and gave me back my old one. Then I found I still could not sign in as I got the message to install the new one or else nothing.
I usually use Internet Explorer but my friend always uses MSN Explorer on this computer and I noticed at this point that he was able to sign in to his MSN Explorer which automatically signed him in to the old messenger and there he was the little green man in all his glory in the corner saying who was online and how many emails there were. AHA! So I opened messenger and signed out of my friends account and tried to sign into mine but the same old message came up and I was unable to sign in. So I signed into MSN Explorer which made the old messenger active for me. Then I just exited MSN Explorer and opened Internet Explorer and the old messenger remained signed for me.
It does sound a bit of rigmarole but I’ve got used to it now and it’s far better than using that stupid new windows live messenger. So maybe if anyone has problems with this issue they could install MSN Explorer (the free version) and go from there. It’s one way round it anyway.
(By the way my friend was unable to sign into MSN Explorer while windows live was installed but it was ok as soon as it was gone)

    THANK YOU MAGICAL WINDOWS GOD

You have NO IDEA how helpful this was for me. I’ve been sitting here for FIVE HOURS racking my brain for some way to remove this from my PC completely because even though I removed Windows Live Essentials, which was supposedly the uninstaller, the retarded fucking installer wouldn’t allow me to REINSTALL the program, leading me to believe that the person behind the latest version of the windows live installer is a monkey with half his brain replaced with a bag of cow shit. But you saved me from certain aneurysm with this magical code, and I’ll have to give Microsoft a good stern talking to. Thank you SO MUCH. Seriously, I want to bear your child.

have you try disabling your anti-virus and try wlm 9?
      or
      restart wlm after the installation.

I had this problem too when after I installed wlm 9.
I restarted my pc and it was ok.

OMG! Thank you so much! I had the same problem with Messenger. I got a little paranoid because I made another account and the same thing happened :\ And then when I came across the idea of uninstalling it, I couldn’t find an uninstall.exe D:
Anyways, thanks again! I’ll let you know if it works :)

Hmm… It seems it hasn’t solved my problem. I might just go back to using Pidgin.
      Thanks anyways :)

    Hiya Ayumilove,
Seeing as you don’t like WLM 2k9, and MSN+ is out dated what are you going to switch to, I’ve recently jumped on the IM wagon again and ended up with pidgin, seems to do the job but is a little awkward and features that are in the forefront of WLM at tucked away. Sorry I can’t suggest others as this is the first alternate I’ve tried! :D
Love to know how it goes.

did you read the post above?
the post is about how to remove windows live messenger.
      and sharing the solution above.
I did not mention that I dislike wlm 2k9.

Apologies, just assumed that if you’re taking it off you might be putting something else back on in its place.

      C:\Program Files\Windows Live\installer

      Then click wlarp.exe

This will say do you want to uninstall or install click uninstall, tick the messenger box and your done.

So much simpler this way hope it helps. :)

I got the same error last year, so I rolled it back to 8.5

There is a rumor that the update will be forced on users in early April. If that’s true, I’ll switch to skype or google chat. Have you heard anything about that?
